I am pleased to announce that many of my Moroccan themed paintings will be included in the group show, Morocco Rouge, opening September 29 at the Gates Gallery in Brighton, Ontario and running through the end of October. The show will include paintings, photographs and textile work. I'm excited and greatful to the other artists and the Brighton Arts Council for organizing this show. The opening reception Saturday evening is sure to be glorious so join us if you can. The other artists and I will be at the gallery throughout the day for a gallery talk, slide show and sketching demos.
More Morocco: in January Elizabeth and I will show another group of paintings in Belleville, Ontario, I'll keep you posted.
Its turning out to be a week for large paintings in my studio. Heres another 36"x36" of the Moroccan souks. The light filtering through the covered streets on to the bright textiles recalls the idea of swimming through tropical waters -doesn't it? Sigh, spending a little time painting just whets my appetite for more painting!
If you look closely you can see some Marrakeshi slippers in the back on the right, waiting impatiently to be painted again. Also on the left, next to the canvas, theres the watercolor sketch that came first. I don't see that painting here on the blog but this one is similar.
Quick trip: Earlier today I took a moment to assemble some photos from Les Bains de Marrakech, one of the features of the Moroccan Sketchbook workshop, you can go yourself right now and enjoy the spa.
Another watercolor sketch of the Moroccan Souk (s?), approx.5"x5". I think i will give them their own category. Perhaps Permanent Magneta can lay claim to the title "painting blog with most categories".
