Daily Painting

More is More Pt. 2

I decided to photograph today's painting among friends.  Thats Elizabeth's mouse over there and a magic box from Marrakech along with some fake hydrangea blooms bought in february to cheer me up in perpetuity.  A bunch of stuff has been shoved to the side and to the floor for the illusion of order.  This month there is an article in Cottages and Bungalows Magazine entitled Less is More and its about our house.  This is amusing to my husband who does not consider me a minimalist but its all relative right?   Speaking of Michael this painting of his is on display at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum through the summer.  (The more is more pt 1 to which I am referring is here.)

More in the this series.  To be grand about the process I was thinking of Gerhard Richter when I conceived of this painting but it wound up feeling more like Oskar Kokoschka or Matisse circa 1905.

Daily Painting #279, pink shrink.

Yesterday I found mysel painting my shrink, again, without even thinking about it.  Dispite a robust to-do list.  I think the painting was in an effort to reconnect with the therapy space where I don't judge myself in the way I do outside of the office.  As I put myself "in the world" more by teaching, applying for teaching jobs, selling paintings and blogging the harpies scream their disapproval and warnings but in the therapist's office they are subdued.  I love how the White Stripes neatly summarize therapy and art making in their 53 second song "little room".

Daily painting #17

 

Daily Painting #17 is two different daily paintings, portraits of my shrink.  

This week i recieved some lovely comments on facebook regarding my ability to show up; good bad and ugly.  I replied that I have discovered a super-weird link, an inverse relationship between my willingness to lower my expectations and my ability to do stuff and be happy.  L.R. (shrink) has helped me with the earth moving work of accepting where I am so that I can move forward (that is, make it out of bed in the morning).
