The result of today's painting demonstration at Studio Hop, 12"x12", oil on canvas. Thank you so much to everyone who came out. It was a very enjoyable way to spend the afternoon, painting and talking about painting.
From todays still life class, 12"x12", oil on canvas. I'd like to work on it a bit more but as I never finished last Thursday's painting I will post this as-is. Also I have eaten the Pomegranate seeds.
Large under-paintings, rough beginnings that I hope to develop over time. All of these compositions are the fruit of a new kind of picture making for me. I am using a wider variety of reference material rather than painting the still life in front of me or working from one or even a few photographs of the same perspective and the same subject matter. It is very exciting to me. A few weeks ago I attempted to describe it here. Earlier this year I heard Julie Heffernan speak. Her energy was contagious as she spoke of letting the painting lead her, finding out as she goes and "painting in order to go someplace you didn't expect".
