Peonies

I felt like a bridegroom carrying these over the threshold of my studio.  But I am disappointed in the painting.  I may add some tile work in the back ground.  24"x24".

Florist

As an effort to get to know a portrait client whom I have never met I thought I'd begin with watercolor garden studies.  My subject is a Brazilian florist named Dora (she featured my paintings in a lovely blog post).  I am excited about the commission because Dora is drawn to the work of mine which comes most naturally to me.  She signaled out this portrait as a favorite.  I think the loose handling and colors are characteristic of what my friend Lori calls Margaretyness (her own technical term for which I am grateful).

Poppies

The Wicked Witch of the West got me off on a bad foot with poppies but I am over it now.  This is inspired by a neighboors beautiful garden.  9"x12", watercolor pencil and pen on multi media paper.  

More is More Pt. 2

I decided to photograph today's painting among friends.  Thats Elizabeth's mouse over there and a magic box from Marrakech along with some fake hydrangea blooms bought in february to cheer me up in perpetuity.  A bunch of stuff has been shoved to the side and to the floor for the illusion of order.  This month there is an article in Cottages and Bungalows Magazine entitled Less is More and its about our house.  This is amusing to my husband who does not consider me a minimalist but its all relative right?   Speaking of Michael this painting of his is on display at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum through the summer.  (The more is more pt 1 to which I am referring is here.)

Bouquet by the Window

On an entirely unrelated note today Captain Spectacular and I achieved the rank of Purple Belt in our Taekwondo class.  Go team Owen!

Bouquet With Key Limes and Pocket Buddha

There is a large painting in the studio which I absolutely promised myself (and you Colette!) I'd finish today.  Instead I painted this;).  The bouquet is the result of allowing myself to go bannanas at the market and buy six different kinds of flowers-if you count those red berry things as flowers.  Oil on canvas, 18"x24".
