It was a lovely vacation: ferry rides, beaches, the library, card games, wine, sun, wind, lighthouses, vintage furniture, pistachio pancakes, dogs and cats.
The Darius is next door to the Island Library which is terrific with its legos and chess set. They had a copy of Chess for Kids by Richard James which hit just the right note with Benji who kept his nose in it for most of the weekend.
I attempted some rough sketches of children's' heads at the library.
We also enjoyed a charmingly illustrated book of short poems, Days Like This by Simon James (no relationship to Richard as far as I know).
Beautiful but barfy ferry rides; the ginger chews sold aboard were nice but the Dramamine was better.
I tried to channel Elizabeth while sketching the pets.
Back porch of the Darius Inn on Block Island. Charming and funky at the same time. We all enjoyed ourselves, the suite with its little kitchen made the stay especially nice. I made many sketches, one of them is here, I'll post more tomorrow.
From our trip in May. A great place to stay on Block Island; the women who renovated the Darius have created a clean but charming retro feel, walking distance from the ferry. Looking forward to going back, (especially to a suite with a kitchenette and screened in porch). Happy hour is upstairs in the art gallery.
