Starting September 5. Paint the figures / portraits in a landscape setting. This course features weekly live models en plein air when weather permits and in the studio otherwise. Our final session date includes two models. Demonstrations in oil, group and individual instruction.
Painting by the shore again. Here are process shots from my oil painting demonstration during Wednesday's plein air art class at Beavertail Park in Jamestown, Rhode Island. I began with a ground color of quinacridone mixed with white on a gessoed birch panel. Using my guerrilla painter pochacde box and tripod which is very easy to work with.
Up at AS220 project Space this month, its the largest painting I have done since being an undergrad.
What a pleasure to allow myself to: think big, to allow the uncertainty created by the scale change, to paint with my whole body, to use my memory, to have the painting directed my my artistic sensibility rather than direct observation. Here are some studies and process shots.
It began with paintings made on the spot over the last few years along Pleasant Valley Parkway, small moments of giving myself permission to do what interested me at the time.
Its no coincidence that this painting should be hung a week after my son's 13th birthday. We are growing together.
