Tomorrow, November 28 at 12PM I will do a painting demonstration at the Bank RI Gallery on Pitman St. in Providence, RI. I'll set up a still life such as one of these and have a go at it. Bring your lunch and come have a look.
I bought these at the dollar store along with armfuls of other fake flowers last winter. 12"x12", oil on canvas. While painting I listened to a fascinating interview with the immensely talented and dedicated painter Kristin Calabrase.
Last night I dreamt that I found a storage room which contained a pair of ruby slippers. I wondered to myself if there was a pair in my size and then realized the slippers fit me perfectly! Today I was reminded that Dorothy got the slippers because she killed the Wicked Witch of the East by accident when her house landed on the witch. So: she inherited the riby slippers and the power that came with them but that put her on the hot seat with the Wicked Witch of the West... There's no place like home.
The dream reminded me of an unfinished painting of this other pair of ruby slippers I like so much. (Yes thats my MFA Diploma on the wall. I like to keep it handy lest I forget all the rights and privileges it entitles me to.)
From photographs of the little girl in a pink dress and red shoes from our camping trip (I have accidentally added a few years here). 8"x10", oil on panel. I'd like to paint it again, flesh out the Rhododendrons in the foreground and do more to show the proliferation of branches.
A pen, watercolor and marker sketch of the framed paintings at Tea in Sahara. The sketch classes on sight will be fun. Those will be Wednesdays, 12-1PM, December 5, 12 and 19, $10 per class, email me to sign up.
This is one of the paintings currently on display at the Bank RI Gallery on Pitman Street. I am greatful for all of the lovely feedback I've gotten on the show. I'll be doing a painting demonstration Wednesday, November 28, 12-1PM.
