A show of my paintings, Color Play, will be on display for the month of November at Bank RI on Pitman Street.
Hours: Monday-Friday 9AM-7PM, Saturday 9AM-3PM, Sunday 12PM-4PM.
Painter Paula Martiesian curates the Bank RI galleries, meeting her and seeing her work has been an inspiration. Speaking with Paula about my paintings resulted in what felt like permission to play with pattern and color on a larger scale for a more extended period of time than I have in years. A subtle shift (scale, time) but one that feels luxurious. Our conversations reminded me of other periods when pattern and tile work have attracted me: undergrad when I wallpapered a box with floral patterns as a backdrop for portraits and still life, my BFA show which consisted of life sized paintings of floral print dresses, in grad school I tiled a studio wall so that I could paint from direct observation. The continuity in my own work surprises me.
30"x30", oil on canvas. See the study for this one here.
