Garden fantasy.

I am off to collect my master and commander from RISD Art Camp now.  While he was out I had time to do both real and imaginary gardening.  (This painting has sold.)

Though I usually only post my own art for simplicity's sake here's something from art camp-go Captain Spectacular!:

Painting #350.

I started this last thursday in still life class.  oil on canvas,11"x14".

# 349, jump.

8"x10", oil on canvas.  I am in love with this painting.  I was listening to Sweet Honey in the Rock perform "Wade in the Water" and Bernice Johnson Reagon doing "Couldn't hear Nobody Pray". 

For Helen, crunchy and delicious.

Helen asked for more Verdi so i collaged on this bit from la traviata, Violetta and Alfredo go on and on with "croce e delizia al cor".  That means torment and delight of my heart in italian, my brain translated it into crunchy and delicious. This phrase, this reminder that the best and the worst often come in the same package often soothes me.  For example when fruit of my loins, Captain Spectacular is screaming murderous insults while attempting physical violence at his dear friends and our guests for the day I think, "oh right, life is bothy crunchy and delicious, this is one of the crunchy parts".

Painting #346, boat.

There's a part in La Traviata, Act 2 Scene 2 (in this link it happens between 3:45 and 4 minutes)when the chorus is belting a panicky lament that always sound to my ears like "We missed the boat we missed the boat we missed the boat we missed the b-o-a-t we missed the, boat.  We missed the boat we missed the boat we missed the boat we missed the boat we missed the booooooaaaaaaaaat!".  Listen for yourself.
